San Ramon’s current traffic management strategy is, in large part, not aligned with scientific evidence. The consensus among transportation researchers is that adding new lanes to roads has minimal impact on reducing traffic [click for link], wasting money that could be used on more effective strategies.
As a City Councilmember, I will oppose unnecessary road widenings that waste our money and time and frustrate residents, and instead push for those funds to be used to incentivize walking and biking as a traffic-reduction strategy. This would also have the added benefit of helping the city reduce carbon emissions that occur from driving and reduce traffic deaths by making walking and biking safer in San Ramon.
